Summary
Chryler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The side marker lights may not function due to an incompatible tail light assembly wiring harness. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
FCA will replace the tail light assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 26, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is Z43.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go towww.nhtsa.gov..
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Some of the above vehicles may have been built with a wiring harness that is incompatible with the tail lamp assembly, which results in nonfunctional side marker lamps within the tail lamp assembly. Vehicles with nonfunctional side marker lamps may cause an approaching vehicle to be unaware of the position and dimensions of the vehicle, which can cause a crash without prior warning.
The condition described above does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108 Table 1-a which requires that side marker lamps shall be “steady burning.” Vehicles that do not activate the side marker lamps when the vehicle lighting is activated are not steady burning.
