An increase in pin contact resistance can increase the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and ignition is off.

Summary

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling one model year 2017 BMW X3 xDrive 28i vehicle manufactured on June 7, 2016.

This vehicle has electronic power steering (EPS), and the contact pins on the EPS control unit may not have been welded properly resulting in increased resistance.

Remedy

The vehicle was repaired at the dealership before sale.

Therefore, an owner notification notice will not be issued for this campaign.

SITUATION

BMW AG is conducting a Voluntary Safety Recall involving certain Model Year 2015 – 2017 vehicles. This involves the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) control unit. The EPS control unit may not have been produced to specifications. EPS control unit electrical contact pins may not have been welded which could increase electrical resistance.

There are 103 vehicles involved in this recall. For your convenience, we have attached the VIN list of the affected vehicles. A Q &A is also attached.
