TO: All Mazda Dealership General Managers, Service Managers, and Parts Managers

DATE August 2015

SUBJECT: 2010-2011 Mazda3 PZEV equipped with 2.0L LF engine Nonconformity to Exhaust Emission Standards – Emission Recall 8415G

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct an Emission Recall Campaign to reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on certain 2010-2011 Mazda3 PZEV vehicles equipped with 2.0L LF engine and produced from October 7, 2008 through July 2, 2011.

On certain 2010-2011 Mazda3 vehicles, Non-Methane Organic Gas (NMOG) emission may fail to conform to the LEV-II SULEV exhaust emission standards due to inappropriate learning logic of powertrain control module (PCM). Dealers are instructed to reprogram the PCM with modified software to correct this condition.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by first class mail on August 25, 2015.

Important notice: California Department of Motor Vehicles and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in conjunction with the California Air Resources Board and the Environmental Protection Agency for the State of Massachusetts, have implemented the Registration Renewal/Recall Tie-In Program, which requires the completion of Emission Recalls prior to registration renewal. Mazda dealers must provide customers in these states a Vehicle Emission Recall – Proof of Correction Certificate upon completion of the recall. Instruct the customer to keep the certificate until needed for registration renewal.
